If Darjeeling is the “champagne of Indian teas,” this venerable breakfast tea developed in the mid-1800s is “the cognac of China.” This Qimen is an historic tea from Qimen County, south Anhui Province, emblematic of the finest English Breakfast teas. Mao feng, or “hair tip” Qimen is known for its thin, intricately, open-twisted, young “spider leg” leaf, distinguished from the tightly-wrapped, eyebrow-shaped Hao Ya grades. It is purplish-black in color with an attractive lamb’s wool visual texture. The infusion is reddish-golden. The flavor of this rare, beautifully-crafted tea is like an aged, blended wine and freshly-toasted honey wheat bread.
